Good timing with this one. Hopefully I'm going to see them in concert next Sunday, so it's nice to catch up on the deeper cuts on this album.
First a little history on Asia for those who don't know. Asia were a supergroup that were formed featuring former members of Yes, ELP, King Crimson, and The Buggles.
This album was their debut and has the song everyone knows, "The Heat of The Moment" on it as the opening number. My favorite tune is the second single and second track "Only Time Will Tell".
Overall, it is a pretty good album, although a bit too keyboard heavy. Which is funny since Steve Howe is in this band. You'd think there would be long drawn out guitar solos all over this album.
The best thing about this band to me though is John Wetton's voice. I just really dig his vocals. It'll be interesting to see how it sounds 25 years later at next week's show.
So yes, this is an album I'll be keeping. Personally, I think Asia were a joke up until recently. And a lot of that has to do with it being a keyboard heavy band. But I think since the original four members reunited in 2006 and have gone back on tour, there has been a new appreciation for the band, and I for one am looking forward to seeing the show.
AC/DC- Highway To Hell
My first time to backtrack. I bought this a couple of days ago, but was waiting until this weekend to listen to it.
First, let me mention that I do have the entire Bon Scott era AC/DC catalog on my computer. So it's not like I'm not familiar with this album. It's not my favorite AC/DC record (that would be Let There Be Rock) but this one is up there. I mean how could it not with awesome tunes like "Highway To Hell", "Girl's Got Rhythm", "Shot Down In Flames", "If You Want Blood", and "Love Hungry Man" on it?
Every time I go vinyl hunting, I look for AC/DC records. It's a lot harder than it sounds to find used copies in really good condition though. I guess I could always buy new copies, but hell I ain't that rich. Plus, it's fun to hunt.
Needless to say, I was stoked when I found this copy for only $4.99. It's in really good shape too. I really think I'll try to complete my Bon Scott era first and then go find some Brian Johnson era records after that. AC/DC is the band on here that I'll probably be back tracking with the most. So get used to it.
