Day 40

The Blue Nile- Hats

Damn Hermine killed the internets so I wasn't able to blog yesterday. Just as well, I was super tired when I got home from my double job Tuesday.

So the best way to explain this record is this is one of those albums you want to listen to while driving around town late at night thinking about a girl you really dig but things aren't going your way. Luckily, I don't have that problem anymore since I'm in a committed relationship with a wonderful girl. She really is the best thing that's ever happened to me. It's like winning the lottery.
Alright, enough sappy talk.

But seriously, when I was younger and was crushing on a girl that wasn't crushing back, I found comfort in listening to gloom and doom songwriters. I could relate and it made me feel better. Since I'm a newer Blue Nile fan, I never got to experience this album in that way. Hopefully I never will.

Side 1 is only 3 songs, but all incredible. "The Downtown Lights" and "Let's Go Out Tonight" especially.

Only song on Side 2 that isn't a gem is "Seven AM". Everything else is stellar. And album closer "Saturday Night" is just a killer song to end the album. Especially when you are headed home after a long night of driving.

  1. A late night album if there ever was one. It should be illegal to play this before dusk. At once it evokes heartache, despair, longing, hope, trains and twinkling skylines.
