Boston- Third Stage
Wow, I don't remember "Amanda" being that cheesy when I was 14! I guess it's been a really long time since I've heard the song. I wonder how many dudes back in '86 who had been waiting 8 years for the next Boston album heard that and thought, "really?" I was too young to think that. I freakin' loved that song back then.
One thing that strikes me as odd is why they would have that be the opening number and not "We're Ready" which is a stellar tune. I'd hope the record company is too blame for that mistake. And what the hell? Why is "Amanda" and "My Destination" the same song? Were they running out of ideas but still really wanted another ballad? First track on Side 2 is called "To Be A Man" and the chorus is "What does it take to be a man?" Not writing crappy n' sappy songs like this would be a good start.
I don't know why, but all these memories of hanging out at Collin Creek Mall in Plano, TX are flashing back listening to this record. Maybe I bought it on cassette there. At least I did get to see Boston on this tour at the Texxas Jam in '87. I think it was there second gig of the tour and it was pretty amazing. I had never seen so many lighters lit up at one time for the ballads. Really was a sight to see.
No video on the post. Don't think it's necessary for three Boston videos in a row.
On another note, if you've been reading this blog regularly, I'm not going to backtrack anymore if I buy an album that I've already passed in the alphabet. Instead I'm going to listen to my entire collection as is and after I listen to that last ZZ Top record, I'll go back and blog the other records I've bought along the way. This blog is going to go on forever!
