Drivin' n' Cryin'- Whisper Tames The Lion
I've always dug this band ever since first hearing "Honeysuckle Blue" off of Mystery Road back in 1989. I loved that song so much I stole the title for a descriptive essay I had to write my Junior year in High School about driving through the state of Georgia. Guess it was appropriate since they are from there.
Anyways, that's a different album that I don't have on vinyl, so enough of that. I'm a big fan of this album too. "Can't Promise You The World" is one of my all time favorite rock n' roll songs. And it's cool that they can bring the heavy rock on a song like "Powerhouse" right after the good time country song, "Catch The Wind". I don't think any other band were playing Southern Rock the way these dudes were. Although I did like later albums, Fly Me Courageous and Smoke, I think they started to get too heavy and that was they're downfall. Should have kept the balance they had with albums like this and Mystery Road. The did head back that way in 1995 with Wrapped In Sky, but by then it was too late.
I telly you what though, when I saw them in 2003 at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, GA, they killed it. I'm glad they are still doing it. Hopefully I'll catch them again in Athens sometime.
