Eagles- Hotel California
The other day on the radio they were talking about what song do you immediately recognize just after a few bars of the song. I'm sure because it's Eagles week for my blog that "Hotel California" instantly popped in my head. Everybody knows that tune right off the bat right?
I do think it's one of the best rock n' roll songs of all time. I don't think I could ever grow tired of listening to it. First thing I did this morning when I woke up was put this on because I knew it was Hotel California day. Nice way to start your day off. It has the best guitar solo duel ever too.
Even though "Hotel California" leads off the album, the rest of the album is really good too. The other singles off this album were "New Kid In Town" and "Life In The Fast Lane", but I'm sure "Victim of Love" and "The Last Resort" are both recognizable to even casual Eagles fans. Surprising thing to me is that with only 8 songs that have vocals, Henley sings lead on 5 of them. Usually they broke them up pretty evenly, but on this album Meisner, Frey, and Walsh only have one each to Henley's five. This was also Randy Meisner's last album with the band. I'll be interested in learning the reasons for his departure in the books I'm reading.
Here's the video I remember always seeing on MTV as a kid:
