Day 189

Footloose- Original Soundtrack

I don't think I ever met someone in age group that doesn't like this movie. It's sad to me that I work with twenty somethings that have never seen it. It makes me feel old, yet also glad that I am a product of the 80's.

I saw this movie three times in the theater when I lived in Jacksonville, NC. They will always be my most memorable theater experiences because at each showing, there were literally people getting up and dancing in the aisles. The shit was unreal!

Obviously this soundtrack has everything to do with that. Sure it sounds really outdated now, but listening to it while I type, every song brings back memories along with scenes from the movies. How can you not think of Ren McCormack teaching Willard how to dance when you hear "Let's Hear It For The Boy"? Or Ren's angst dance scene while "Never" is on? Good stuff.

I can't think of another soundtrack that has this effect on me like Footloose does. Without these songs, how good will this movie really have been? I guess we'll find out when Hollywood acts on the terrible idea of remaking this movie. I can only imagine it will be as bad as the remake of The Karate Kid, and I don't need to see it to know it's god awful.

Here's the scene where the audience goes nuts:
