Day 245

John Hiatt- Bring The Family

I love me some John Hiatt. One of the best songwriters out there. If not the best.

This was the first of his albums that I ever owned. My sister bought it for me for Christmas one year when I had John Hiatt's Slow Turning on my wish list, but she got me this one instead not knowing any better. I was glad she did.

A great mix of country, rock, soul and blues all over this record. And he has Ry Cooder, Jim Keltner, and Nick Lowe backing him up on this album. A precursor to their supergroup, Little Village. Damn, I need to get that record again.

I love every song on this album, but the one I can listen to over and over again is "Have A Little Faith In Me". One of the best ballads of all time in my book. I remember seeing him at Liberty Lunch back in 1996 and he brought the house down when he did this number. Funny though, I can't stand that version he did later with the choir. His vocal and piano is all this song needs. Why ruin something that's perfect?

Watch this video to see the brilliance of this song if you've never heard it.
