Lyle's another guy that I've always wanted to see live but still haven't. I almost did at a SXSW a few years ago. He was playing at Stubb's and I was in the back of a long line to get in. While I'm standing there waiting, unsure if I'd really get in, I noticed a flyer on a telephone pole advertising the Marty Stuart show over at the Central Presbyterian Church.
Tired of waiting in line, I said screw it and headed for the church. So glad I did. I tell people all the time that that Marty Stuart show was one of the best SXSW concerts I've seen. And I've been attending SXSW since 1991.
But this post is about Lyle. The first song I heard of his was "Here I Am" and I thought it was one of the most unique songs I'd ever heard. I credit this album with helping me really appreciate country music in my teenage metal years even though I did grow up with my Dad listening to it a lot. Yes I know this isn't really that much of a country music album, but still.
I love every song on this album and have pretty much loved every Lyle Lovett song I've heard. Just wish I had more on vinyl.
