I've never really been a big Skynyrd fan mainly because when I was growing up, Skynyrd just reformed with Ronnie's little brother and that was pretty much a joke. So that was my frame of reference and it stuck with me throughout the 90's and early 2000's. But now as a 40 year old man, I can confidently say that this, their first album, fucking rules.
Yes, it has the songs like "Tuesday's Gone", "Gimme Three Steps", and "Free Bird" on it that you've heard so many times on the radio you are sick of them. But when it's on your turntable and you crank it, those songs just sound awesome. And the one Skynyrd song I absolutely love, "Simple Man" is on this record too. That song is just true hard driving rock n' roll.
So if you are a fair weathered Lynyrd Skynyrd fan like me, at least do yourself a favor and get this one.
I don't have speakers on my work computer so hopefully this is the original studio version. Or at least some version with Ronnie on vocals.
